Thinking On The Thought

Thinking On The Thought – Poetry by Markus Hamence, May 2026. Image credit: Leo Hiraga

Thought is a river before it is rain,
a whisper in the roots before the tall trees rise.
What you carry within your mind today
becomes the road beneath your feet tomorrow.

Do not bow to the shadows of the present,
for they are only old thoughts wearing familiar clothes.
Lift your eyes to the horizon of your desire
and walk there in your heart before your body arrives.

The seed does not argue with the soil.
It knows what it is becoming.
So plant your vision deep,
water it with feeling,
and let faith be the sunshine on your leaves.

Every mountain was first a thought.
Every song was first a silence.
Every harvest was first a dream
held gently by someone who refused to let it go.

Think of joy and let your spirit dance.
Think of freedom and loosen your chains.
Think of love and watch the walls fall down.
The world bends quietly toward the image
you hold most faithfully within.

So sing your future before it appears.
Bless the unseen before it is seen.
For the strongest force in your life
is not circumstance,
not luck,
not yesterday.

It is the thought you choose
and the feeling you give it.

Guard it well,
for within a single thought
lives an entire tomorrow.
