Don’t Be A Vibe Killer – Poetry by Markus Hamence, April 2026
Don’t be a vibe killer, friend,
we’ve got enough shadows that keep a crawling in.
There’s a cracked guitar on a front porch swing,
still strumming a truth in a rusted string,
and the wind don’t care for a heavy mind,
it just keeps moving, it’ll simply leave you behind.
You walk in weary with a pocket full of doubt,
spilling the grey where the colour was meant to be breaking out,
but the world’s not waiting for you to complain,
it’s turning to quiet through joy and pain.
There’s a kid on the corner with a half-lit grin,
finding gold in a banged-up, dented tin,
and you could learn from the way he plays –
making something out of the nothing days.
So don’t be the drag on the rolling wheel,
don’t twist the truth of what we all feel,
there’s enough hard rain gonna fall on its freaking own,
no need to turn every seed to cold stone.
Be a little bit lighter, let the moment breathe,
there’s more to gain than there is to leave,
and somewhere between the lost and found,
is a simple truth in a gentle sound.
Don’t be a vibe killer, that’s all I’m saying.
